Reginald M. Gardner

Reginald M. Gardner, 75, of Woodlawn, Virginia, passed peacefully at home on Monday, October 26, 2026. Born June 15, 1951, in Radford, Virginia, he was the son of the late Emmett C. Gardner and M. Lorene Martin Gardner and is also preceded in death by brothers Garrett Gardner and James Gardner.

Reginald grew up in Carroll County and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in History, graduating with honors from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and continued his education by completing a Master’s program in School Administration at Radford University. His was a devoted career in public education and public service. He began as an Auto Mechanics and Geography teacher in Carroll County Public Schools, before transitioning into an administrative role as an assistant principal and athletic director. He spent the remainder of his career as a principal in Grayson County Public Schools. He also served for 16 years on the Carroll County School Board and was director of the Upward Bound Program at Surry Community College.

An avid hunter, Reginald treasured the hunting trips he shared with his family and friends. He traveled to Wyoming, Colorado, South Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Canada, and Newfoundland, and equally enjoyed his time hunting on the family farm he cherished since birth.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Hodgens Gardner; his children, Eric Gardner, Carolyn Gardner Hash (Philip), and Charles Gardner (Stephanie Woods Gardner); his grandchildren, Christian, Tennyson, and Ellis Hash, and Caleb and Audrey Gardner; and his siblings, Conner Gardner and Janet Gardner Marshall.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn McGrady Funeral Home in Hillsville, Virginia. A private funeral service will be held at James Gardner Memorial Cemetery.
