Raymond Carter Cox, 66 of Hillsville, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cox was born in Radford, Virginia on July 24, 1950. He was preceded in death by his father, Ibern Ergo Cox. In addition to his father, Carter was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Raymond T. and Effie Ola Shockley and paternal grandparents T.L. and Ocie Mae Cox.

Mr. Cox was a 1968 graduate of Hillsville High School. He obtained his Master's Degree from Virginia Tech and retired from Highland Park Magnet School as a special education teacher. Brother Cox was an active member of the Pleasants Masonic Lodge #63 A.F. & A.M and was a proud member of the Kazim Shriners and A&A Scottish Rite.

Survivors include his mother, Bonnie Shockley Cox of Hillsville; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte Ann and Kenneth Webb of Oviedo, FL and many other special family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor David Bays officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
