Peter
Wood
September 6, 1947 – August 14, 2016
Peter Wood, 68, of Radford, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016. Peter was born in Manchester, England to the late Robert Henry and Nora Walsh Wood.
Peter is survived by his wife Billie "Brooke" Wood of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Robin Wood of Lakeland, Florida; grandson Brennan Wood; brother in-law and wife, Danny and Brenda Bowman; nephews and nieces, Jeremy Bowman, Nicole Lawson, Justin Bowman, and Elesha Pittman; and great nieces and nephews, Kendra, Madison, Braxton, Mason, Brady, Rush and Meadow.
Peter's zest for life was well known by friends and family who will never forget how he cherished each day as another opportunity to experience the rich, amazingly beautiful tapestry of everything this world has to offer in his unending quest for knowledge and enlightenment. He often said he was seeing heaven-on-earth in his daily encounters with nature, spirituality, and the people with whom he could talk to for hours about everything from the Beatles to God to the meaning of life. His love for life was only surpassed by his love for the wife, son, and grandson who all meant the world to him.
Peter studied art at Salford Technical College in Manchester, and decorating and painting at the City and Guilds of London Institute. His work as a faux finisher, paperhanger, and painter was highly regarded in homes and businesses around London, Manchester, Florida, Oklahoma and Virginia. He moved to the United States in 1971 and eventually started his own painting and decorating company, which he continued in Oklahoma and Virginia. He retired in 2010, but eventually became restless and started working part-time in the paint department of the Lowe's store in Fairlawn with a group of people he grew to love.
Peter was an avid collector of Beatles videos, DVD's and keepsakes, and taught his younger wife to fully appreciate the Fab Four. He loved music, movies, soccer, American football, hiking, camping, canoeing, traveling, and art. He was himself an artist painting only for pleasure. What paintings he didn't give away hang on the walls of his Radford home.
Peter's wife will always remember how well he loved and cared for her during their 19 years of marriage, how he introduced her to new books and engaged her in amazing philosophical discussions. He was the love of her life.
