Peter Victor
Bazeley
July 15, 1941 – July 3, 2017
Peter V.R. Bazeley, 75, passed away peacefully July 3, 2017, after a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Born in Swanage, England.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Bazeley. He is survived by his mother, Irene Bazeley, and brother, Christopher Bazeley and Chris's wife Rhea, who reside in England; nephew Paul Bazeley of Oregon and his two children; and niece Emily Bazeley of Ireland and her four children.
After receiving his apprenticeship from City and Guild's of London Institute, he completed his degree in Machine Shop Engineering. He moved to the United States shortly after completing his education, and became a U.S. citizen, holding dual citizenship for many years. His formative years in England were spent pursuing his long-time passions for bicycling (for which he achieved semi-professional status), and all things mechanical, enjoying the process of restoring many automobile projects, including his love of the Citroen Mark, as well as his 541 Jensen, which followed him to the United States from England. He also was kept busy with restoring and building houses. Peter was very keen on World War II history, and attended military club meetings while in England. His interest in this period of history lasted throughout his life. A high point was attending the fiftieth anniversary of the D-Day landings with his English military club, complete with vintage vehicles.
While spending several years in Jamaica working his trade for Foxboro Instruments, a distillery, he drove rally cars for Volvo, was a scuba instructor in the Cayman Islands, and was a rugby team member.
He spent over thirty years enjoying his work building computer chip wafer loading devices for Varian Ion Industries of Gloucester, MA. He was always active in team building within the company, enjoying the social aspects of golfing and company functions.
While living in Gloucester, MA He was active in the local model airplane chapters. He attended many air and car shows, always a favorite way to while away a weekend with family and friends. He was also active in the Citroen Car Club for many years while living in MA.
Peter continued his interest in competitive cycling, and belonged to local cycling clubs into his sixties.
He was always pleased to help others with their mechanical and building projects, and enjoyed the process immensely. He was a mentor to many, young and old, in his passion for passing his mechanical knowledge on.
Peter retired to the peaceful beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest VA, where he continued his hobbies of reading, bicycling, and car restoration; his final project being his 1954 Jensen Interceptor 541.
He will be missed by his many friends and companions, who shared the many interests he explored through the course of his life.
