Obituary

Pauline A. Melton, 85 of Hillsville, peacefully walked into Heavens Garden and into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, September 14, 2011. She was born in Carroll County on August 12, 1926. She was an active, long-time member of Fancy Gap United Methodist Church. Married for 64 years, she is survived by her husband, Cecil Melton of the home, best friend and daughter, Patricia Alderman, best buddy, and son in-law Nelson Alderman, and special grandson, David Alderman, all of Vinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Akers and Effie Hall Akers, two brothers, Earnest and Dyer Akers; stepmother, Minerva Akers, and many nieces and nephews.

Pauline was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her sense of humor was a delight to all that knew her. She made friends easily and everyone loved to visit, laugh, and share stories with her. She had a love for flowers, cats, and reading. Being a lady of many talents, she was a seamstress, cook, gardener, and homemaker. She also worked many years outside the home and alongside her husband to keep a dairy farm going. She will be greatly missed by all.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with the Rev. Maria Grimm officiating. A graveside service will follow at Independence Cemetery.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff at Blue Ridge Home Health, especially Katy, Donna, Roger, and Pat.
