Paul Jamison Childress,
age 93, of Hillsville, Virginia passed away on December 10, 2015 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. He was born on November 24, 1922 at Davidson, North Carolina to the late Reverend Robert "Bob" Childress and Mamie Lelia Montgomery Childress.
He was a member of Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church where he attended for 86 years. He had a great sense of humor and loved relating stories of growing up in a large family in the Buffalo Mountain community. He served our country during World War II in the 65th Infantry seeing action in France and Germany.
In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by a son, Walter Bolen Childress and a grandson, Mark Preston Childress. He is also preceded in death by brothers Conduff Childress, Rev. Bryan Childress, Rev. William "Bill Joe" Childress, and Rev. Robert W. Childress, Jr. and sisters, Hattie Childress, Evelyn Kemp, and Marie Lucas.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Weeks Childress, son and wife, Allan and Virginia Childress of Hillsville, Virginia and daughter and husband, Karen Childress Williams and Gray, of Blairsville, Georgia. He is also survived by grandchildren and spouses, Charles Childress and Rita, Susan Worrell and Mike, Martha Childress and Scott Bailey, Jayme and Adam Holcombe, and Tiffany and Matthew Caponigro; twelve great (great and grand he always said!) grandchildren, Preston, Alli, Henry, Jesse, Jaynelle, Adalee, and Isabela Worrell, Sydney and Maddie Childress, Jace Paul McDaniel and Chelsea Bailey and Syanna Holcombe. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Roberta Childress and Jean Childress along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, Virginia. Funeral services will be Monday, December 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church in Willis, Virginia, with Reverend Stewart Childress officiating and Reverend Jud Milan and Reverend Edwin Lacy assisting. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church, in care of Jack Price, 3800 Buffalo Mountain Road, Willis, Virginia 24380.
