Orba Owen Alderman, 78 of Hillsville, passed away at home on Thursday, September 25, 2014. Mr. Alderman was born in Carroll County on April 16, 1936. He was preceded in death by his father, Owen Alderman. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Alderman of the home; mother, Clara Stockner Alderman of Hillsville; daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Allan Stone of Myrtle Beach, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Owen R. and Kolleen Alderman of Tacoma, WA; step son and spouse, David and Teri Carr of Lincolnton, NC; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Jack Conklin of Woodlawn; grandchildren, Rachel Aponte and husband, Jason, Matthew Bartley and Renee, Clara Alderman, Tamara Alderman, and Owen Alderman, Jr. and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsville at 3:00 PM with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 PM. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family says that flowers would be appreciated; however, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund 225 Fulcher Street, Hillsville, VA 24343 or Mountain Valley Hospice 1477 Carrolton Pike, Hillsville, VA 24343.
