Opal Vinson Beeson, 98 of Hillsville, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Waddell Nursing Home. Born in Carroll County on February 26, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Peter E. & Etta Fariss Vinson. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by one sister, one brother, her husband of 67 years, Joseph R. Beeson, Sr., daughter Zeta Beeson Montgomery, and a beloved daughter-in-law Janice Tilley Beeson.

Mrs. Beeson is survived by her sons & daughter-in-law Joseph R. Beeson, Jr. of Hillsville and Daniel F. & Nancy Beeson of Pilot Mt., NC. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and the loving staff and many friends made during her nine years as a resident at Wheatland Hill Assisted Living Facility.

Mrs. Beeson was salutatorian of the Hillsville High School Class of 1929 as well as salutatorian of the Graduating Class of Winston Salem City Memorial Hospital Nursing Class of 1937. She was well known throughout the community for her assistance and care giving of those in need medically. She was a practicing Registered Nurse for many years in Dr. J. Glen Coxs obstetrical clinic and retired as a head start nurse with the Carroll County School System.

She was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and active in church activities in her vibrant years. She loved her Lord, her family and her friends. She was a great fan of CCHS and Virginia Tech football. As well as her service to her job and to others, she served her family with years of splendid meals and a warm caring home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 1:00 PM with Rev. Ron Kronk, Rev. Norman Goad, and Rev. S.G. Bolt officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinson Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 30, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
