Olen Douglas
Marshall
March 4, 1933 – June 2, 2025
Olen Douglas Marshall, 92 of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025 at the Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville. Olen was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Charles Roy and Levina Myers Marshall. In addition to his parents, he was also proceeded in death by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Burnette Marshall; brothers Bernard Marshall and Lane Marshall; and sisters, Iva Beasley and Brenda Armstrong.
Survivors include his daughter, Robin Monroe (Grabe); grandchildren, Whitney Cooperrider (Craig) and Evan Monroe; great-grandchildren Virginia Cooperrider, Riley Cooperrider, and Aniston Cooperrider; and siblings Elden Marshall (Dana) and India Teller (Craig); and siblings-in-laws Janet Marshall and Bob Armstrong.
Olen worked for Burlington Industries for 26 years as a dispatcher; but Olen's favorite occupation was cattle farming with his lifelong friend Dr. James Hylton. Olen enjoyed farming well into his 80's. Olen was a devoted father, and always up for an adventure. As Robin was an only child, he frequently invited his niece, Pam Ward Collins, to join in on their fun.
Olen spent the last years of his life as a resident at Commonwealth Senior Living. Lane and Janet Marshall would pick him up almost daily and take him for car rides across Carroll County to look at the farms where he once kept cattle, or to visit Bob Armstrong; these trips were the highlight of his days. The family would like to give a special thanks to the incredible staff at Commonwealth Senior Living, and Medi Hospice as they provided nothing short of exceptional care.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2pm with Mr. Robbie Vance officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1pm until 2pm prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn- McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Commonwealth Senior Living Hillsville Christmas Fund for their employees. Donations can be mailed to 100 Kyle Drive, Hillsville VA 24343.
