Odessa Granny Sowers Meredith, 95, of Fancy Gap, VA, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008. She was a member of Sky View Baptist Church and was retired from Belk Department Store. She is survived by three children & their spouses, Kenneth & Veronica Gravley Meredith of Fancy Gap, Emmett & Betty Webb Meredith of Fancy Gap and Faye & Ronald Shepherd of Edgewater, FL; six grandchildren & their spouses, Kenny & Barbara Meredith of Pilot Mountain, NC, Stephanie Shepherd Gregoire and Richard Gregoire of Largo, FL, Kathy Meredith Funkhouser and Troy Funkhouser of Gate City, VA, Keith & Keli Meredith of Hillsville, David Meredith of Independence, and Janet Meredith of Holly Springs, NC; nine great grandchildren; two special nieces, Laurie Fariss and her husband, Jim, and Lillian Bowman; several other nieces and nephews; special friends, Loraine McGrady, Lula McGrady, and Barbara Perkins, many other friends; and the wonderful staff and many friends at Wheatland Retirement Home. Odessa was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell Meredith and her six siblings. Odessas greatest joys were her love for her family and her ability to help others in the community. She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Visitors to the Blue Ridge Parkway often stopped to admire her gardening efforts.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Wendell Horton and Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb-Sky View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 8, from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel.
