Obituary

Norma Reynolds Puckett , 75, a long-time resident of Fancy Gap VA, passed away Sunday the 2nd of October at Comforting Hands Extended Care in Pulaski VA.

Born in 1940 in Hillsville VA, the oldest of four children, to James Edgar and Gladys (Bunn)Reynolds. Norma is a graduate of Hillsville High School and Radford College.

Norma was married to the late Roland Puckett of Fancy Gap. She was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Puckett and both of her parents. Norma leaves behind her son, Roland Craig Puckett and wife Sheila; her daughter, Sarah (Puckett) Breeden and her husband Darryl; her daughter in-law, Denise Hicks; 4 grandchildren, Shay Byrd, Ashleigh Ramsey, Austin Puckett, and Kelsey Breeden; 1 great-grandchild Tinsley Byrd. Also surviving are 2 brothers, Mat Reynolds and wife Bev, Elmo Reynolds and wife Betty; 1 sister Inez (Reynolds) Snoddy and husband Bill; brother in-law, Mike Puckett and wife, Phyllis,1 sister in-law Gwelda Shelton; along with many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Norma taught in Carroll County Public Schools for 31 years. All 31 of these years were at Fancy Gap Elementary, mostly in the 4th grade. This was her true calling. She took great pride in trying to instill her love for reading in all of her students, many of whom will remember her reading to them at the end of each day.

Upon retiring from teaching, Norma remained an active member of her community. She was a member with Fancy Gap United Methodist Church where she held several different offices within the United Methodist Women at her church as well as in the Holston Conference, as well as being active with their mission team. She enthusiastically joined and participated with the Red Hat Society as well as volunteering at the Golden Harvest thrift store. She was a member of the Eastern Stars and served as Grand Matron. Norma had a love for traveling and enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. She will be greatly missed by all that loved her and whose lives she touched.

Services will be held at Fancy Gap United Methodist Church on Wednesday the 5th of October at 2:00 PM with Rev. Wendell Horton officiating. The family will receive visitors from 1 o'clock until 2 o'clock at the church. The service will follow with an internment at Pilot View Cemetery. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
