Obituary

Nomeka Bell Beasley Griffin, 89, of the Laurel Community of Carroll County died August 26, 2010 at her home. She was born Feb. 16, 1921 at the family homeplace of William Andrew & Noma Hancock Beasley. She was the last surviving sibling with six brothers and six sisters. Deceased brothers are Carl, Ray, Darcy, Guy, Price, and Glenn and deceased sisters, Daisy, Ann, Nina, Opal, Edna, and Mary Lula. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 69 years, Zelmer Brooks Griffin, loving daughter, Rheda G. Cross and son-in-law Albert Tom Thompson.

She is survived by her daughter Effie G. Thompson of Rural Retreat, VA and son-in-law Lawrence Cross of The Villages, FL. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Nomeka was a member of Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville on Saturday, August 28, 2010 from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be at Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM with the Elder Ronnie Bowman and Elder Timmy McGrady in charge of services. Burial will follow in the Thomas Beasley Family Cemetery.
