Nina Mae Gardner, 86 of Hillsville, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Ms. Gardner was born in Carroll County to the late Melvin W. & Maryetta Harriman Gardner. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her nieces Betty Lewis and Barbara Horton. Survivors include sister Mary G. Utt of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law Katherine Gardner of Floyd; nieces & spouses Sandra & Larry Cook of Hillsville, Susan & Gary Waller of Raleigh, NC, and Vicki Gardner of Roanoke; nephews & spouses Robbie & Diann Gardner of Radford, Steven Utt of Richmond, VA, Allen & Diane Robinson of Liberty, NC, Don & Joyce Gardner of Floyd, Jacob Horton, and David Lewis of Knoxville, TN; several great nieces; and special caregivers Martha & Jackie Bullins, Connie & Marvin Alley, Carla Bolen, Freida Sowers, Carol Montgomery, and Brittany Lambert.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Chaplain Tom Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardner Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Carilion Hospice of New River Valley or Island Creek United Methodist Church.
