Obituary

NELLIE AGNES MARSHALL, 101, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Carroll County, was a native of Southwestern Virginia. She lived and was raised in a small village in the mountains, called Laurel Fork, so named because of the Mountain Laurels everywhere. She was born to the late Nancy and Greene Marshall of Carroll Co. VA. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtie Bader of Maryland and Claudia Stowe of Norfolk, VA, and also two brothers, William and Raymond Marshall. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Radford and Duke University. She began her educational career as a teacher in Carroll County, VA, later moving to the Fairfax County Public School System. In Fairfax High School she was a teacher of Mathematics and the Arts for 30 years until retirement. One of the most interesting experiences she likes to recall is being a sponsor of the National Honor Society. The members were so trustworthy that she let them take turns in driving her first car, a 1958 red and white Thunder-Bird. After retirement she was influenced by friends from Fredericksburg and Mary Washington College to make her home at Chancellor's Village. She very much enjoyed her life at the Village, but during the summer months, when she was able, she opted to return to the beautiful mountains of Laurel Fork from May thru October. Chancellor's was her home and she cherished every moment living there and counted her blessings for all her good friends in the area. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM. An Eastern Star Service will be held by the Hillsville Chapter # 71. Inurnment will follow in the Pine View Cemetery. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
