Nancy Hawks Helton, 76 of Galax, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Ms. Helton was born in Lambsburg, Virginia to the late Dixie Bernard Hawks, Sr. and Edith Cooley Hawks. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Alice Martin and Elizabeth Johnson; and two brothers D.B. Hawks, Jr. and Neale Hawks. Ms. Helton is survived by her daughters & son-in-law Becky Helton of Galax and Caroline Helton & Matthew Kaplan of Ann Arbor, MI; son & daughter-in-law Kenny & Ginny Helton of Blacksburg; brothers & sisters-in-law Tom & Mary Kay Hawks of Hillsville, Frank & Ann Hawks of Lambsburg and John Benjamin Hawks of Lambsburg; five grandchildren Jake Landau, Hava Kaplan, Ben Helton, Molly Helton and Sam Helton; and several special nieces and nephews. Nancy was a faithful member of the Hillsville Christian Church Choir.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Hillsville Christian Church at 2:00 PM with Dr. John Dunstan and Ron Schwartz officiating. A private burial will be held on Tuesday in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Sunday, November 23, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
