On June 14, 2006 God took a beautiful flower from this earth to live in his Heavenly Garden. Mildred W. Puckett, age 90 of 153 Turner View Trail, Mt. Airy, NC and formerly of Laurel Fork, passed away quietly following a short illness at Northern Surry Hospital. She had suffered a stroke on May 19, 2003 and had been a resident at the Skilled Care Unit of Northern Hospital of Surry County since that time.

She is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, Douglas and Mabel Puckett of Martinsville, VA; a daughter & son-in-law, Gayle and Preston Thomas of Mt. Airy, NC and a daughter Darlene Scott of Mt. Airy, NC; three grandchildren & spouses Debbie & Ralph Hiatt, Donna & John Kelly of Mt. Airy and Billy Puckett of Burlington, NC; six step-grandchildren, James, Steve, Tracy and Earnie McPeak and Lisa Martin and Dana Jones; four great grandchildren Alyson & Jarrett Hiatt and Kade Kiger and Holly Rene Kelly; two half brothers Junior and Howard Webb, a half sister June Webb Kelly; sister-in-law June Stevens; brother-in-law & wife Medford and Judy Puckett of Maryland and a brother-in-law Dudley Puckett of Delaware.

She was a member of Tory Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Laurel Fork Senior Citizens Club, the Homemakers Club and Auxiliary Member of Laurel Meadows Nursing Home.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Garnett Puckett; mother Etta McPeak; father Roy Webb; brother Lenford Webb; sister Helen Hill; half brother Dale Webb and half sister Phyllis Webb.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16, 2006 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, VA. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. with services following the viewing. Burial will be at Laurel Fork Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Laurel Fork Community Center P.O. Box 139, Laurel Fork, VA 24352 or to the Northern Hospital of Surry County Skilled Care Unit 930 Rockford Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
