Michael Harvey Smith

Michael Harvey Smith, 58 of Galax, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at his home. Mr. Smith was born in Galax, Virginia to the late Lee Warren and Linda Leonard Smith. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Esther Haynes; brother-in-law, James Lovill; paternal grandparents, Warren Lee and Ruth Bowers Smith; and maternal grandmother Clara Bobbitt Leonard.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Lynn Lovill Smith; children, Michael Smith (Whitney) and Ashley Smith; grandchildren, Weston Smith, Malakai Smith, Destiny Kennedy, and Chloe Smith; great-grandchild, Wyatt Frye; sister, Anetta Smith; sister-in-law, Margaret Ayers (Mason); brother-in-law, Larry Haynes; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 3:00 PM with Pastor Jeff Pickett officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
