Merritt M. Vass, 90 of Hillsville, passed away Wednesday, November 05, 2008 at the Veterans Medical Center in Salem. Mr. Vass was born in Carroll County to the late John Walter and Pearlie Worrell Vass. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Helen Vass. He is survived by nieces Christine Hendrick of Rural Hall, NC and Rebecca Coulson of Winston Salem, NC; nephews & spouses Ned & Hilda Edwards of Midlothian, VA, Chester & Amy Webb of Fancy Gap, Randy & Betty Coulson of Urbanna, VA and Tony & Rita McCrary of Cana; sister-in-law Hazel Coulson of Cana and several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor David Bays officiating. Burial will follow in the Gladesboro Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville Masonic Lodge 193 AF & AM and Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Flowers would be appreciated; however, donations may be made to the Hillsville Masonic Lodge P.O.
