Obituary

Melvin Ray Vaughn, 79 of Austinville, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 with his wife and family by his side. Mr. Vaughn was born on November 26, 1938 in Virginia to the late Daniel and Susan Webb Vaughn. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Ray had a huge heart. He never met a stranger and always had a song to sing. Ray enlisted in the US Army in 1959 and proudly served his country for two years. Meanwhile, he met and married the love of his life, Juanita Shupe Vaughn. They were blessed to spend 58 loving years together. He was a family man whose love for his family was very much apparent in how he always put his loved ones first. He was a proud father to a daughter and a son and wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ray was also an engineer for the telephone company for 37 years and a lifelong farmer.

In addition to his wife, Juanita, of the home, Ray is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ray Coleman of Hillsville; son and daughter-in-law, Barry Ray and Christa Vaughn of Austinville; very special niece, Sue Hurst of Hillsville; grandchildren and spouses, Jessica and Michael Wolford, Tracy and Justin Jones, Brooklyn Vaughn, and Ashlee Ray Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Kaden Ty Coleman and Kinsley McKay Wolford; and siblings, Guida Hillick of Hillsville, Coy Vaughn of Max Meadows, Dean Vaughn of Austinville, Emory "Bob" Vaughn of Ohio, and Ann Austin of Austinville.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Cas Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Grover King VFW Post 1115 Hillsville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the Vaughn family.
