Melvin J. Overstreet, 74 of Hillsville, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at his home. Mr. Overstreet was born in Floyd County, VA to the late James Henry and Lillian Branscome Overstreet. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, John Overstreet; and a sister, Frances Alderman.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Overstreet of the home; children and spouse, Priscilla Huff of Hillsville and Danny Huff of Willis, Johnny Dickerson of Radford and Joan Overstreet of Salem; siblings and spouse, James and Susie Overstreet of Willis, Will Overstreet of Galax, Ann Holcomb of Dublin, Marie Hall of Floyd, and Frankie Sweet of Taylorsville, NC; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bean and Ashley Huff; great grandchildren, Noah Grimes and Abel Spivey; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. S.G. Bolt officiating. Burial will follow in the Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
