Obituary

Rhodessa Maxilene Hill, 91, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center in Galax, VA. She was born on April 5th, 1930 in Carroll County to the late Lee Bolden and Anna Mae Edwards Miller. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Ray W. Hill.

Maxilene lived and loved the simple life. She worked at Sprague Electric for several years and worked along side Ray farming. She was happiest when she was in the kitchen cooking or in the basement canning with Ray by her side. Maxilene loved to read cookbooks and magazines, always looking for new recipes to try. Ray was a great assistant and served as her "sampler". Maxilene was best known for her lime pickles, canned beets, potato salad and pinto beans with cornbread. She loved to share with others and even canned for many people in the neighborhood.

Maxilene was the person behind the scene when Sky View Church started making apple butter and applesauce to sell. She provided a great recipe so the church could make 40 gallons of apple butter at the time. This helped the church to sell thousands of dollars of apple butter and applesauce over the years that in turn was given to missions locally, statewide, nationally and internationally.

Maxilene also acted as the "neighborhood watch person" for those living on Baltimore Road. Maxilene will be dearly missed by her neighbors, friends, church and family.
