Mavis P. Martin Puckett, 93 of Hillsville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Commonwealth Assisted Living in Hillsville, VA.  Mavis was born on the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Patrick County on June 5, 1931 to the late Raymond and Otilla Pruitt.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husbands, Mahlon Martin and Creighton Puckett; sisters, Mabel Martin; and granddaughter, Jessica Felts.

Mavis' prime purpose and goal in life was always the love, care, and nurture of family, from her early years with parents and sisters, to later years with children and grandchildren.  Her side-hustle was being Postmaster at the post office in Ararat, Virginia.  Always focusing on others, this position afforded her the opportunity to get to know others and offer hope and encouragement.  Although she will be greatly missed, she has left a legacy and example that we may all strive to follow.

Survivors include her sister, Macie Burcham; children, Donald (Dana) Martin, Tommy Martin, and Joyce (Will) Thacker; grandchildren, Fara (Joe) Carson, Michelle (Latane) Thacker and Tracy (Joe) Haynes; great-grandchildren, Georgia and Charlotte Carson and Skyler and Jesse Haynes; special friend, Hazel Jesse; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Private services for the family were held on August 9, 2024 with the Rev. Terry McMillian officiating.  Burial followed in the Bowman Martin Farris Cemetery in Orchard Gap.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
