Obituary

Mason Martin Hicks, 101 of Hillsville passed away on February 9, 2013 at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows Nursing Home in Laurel Fork. He was the son of the late Jerry M. Hicks and Laura F. Stoneman Hicks. He was also preceded in death by his wife Edith Gardner Hicks; six brothers, Herbert, Howard, James, Ray, Walter, and Brooks Hicks; three sisters, Ida, Annie, and Edith. In 1976 Mason retired from the New Jersey Zinc Company, in Austinville, VA with 35 years of service. He was a member of the Dalton Hill Christian Church, and a member of the Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) of Virginia since 1949. He enjoyed gardening, hunting fishing, and all sports. Mason attended church and the Carroll County Senior Citizens meetings on a regular basis. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Peggy Hicks of Richmond; granddaughter and spouse, Amy and Richard Michaux, Jr., of Richmond; two great grandsons, Mason and Marlon Michaux of Richmond. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Chip Neely and Pastor Jason Simpkins officiating. Odd Fellows service will be held at the cemetery. Burial will follow at Monta Vista Memory Gardens in Galax. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
