Obituary

Mary Jewell Vass Hall, 80 of Fancy Gap, passed away Thursday, August 03, 2006 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center after a long illness. Mrs. Hall was born in 1925 to the late Thomas Jefferson & Sarah Beulah Vass. A lifelong resident of Carroll County and a member of Good Hope Primitive Baptist Church, she was a faithful wife, mother of three, grandmother of five and great grandmother of one. Jewell was preceded in death by her husband Elder Rufus Paul Hall; brother Carlos Owen Vass and grandson David Hall.

Survivors include two sons & spouses Ivan & Linda Hall of Fancy Gap and Arlie & Toni Hall of Fancy Gap; one daughter & spouse Evelyn and Robert Fuller of Hillsville; four grandchildren and spouse John & Kim Hall of Dandridge, TN, Matthew Fuller of Hillsville, Christina Hall of Fancy Gap and Anne LaRae Cox-Hall of Fancy Gap; great grandchild Sarah Madison Hall of Dandridge, TN; two brothers & sister-in-law K. Elmo Vass of Woodlawn and Swanson & Wylma Vass of Hillsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Jewell was a devoted and loving wife to her husband Paul for over 57 years. Jewell and Paul shared a love that people young and old long to experience. Their love was undying and it gives her family peace in knowing that they are finally together again walking hand in hand. God hath not promised skies always blue, flower-strewn pathways, All our lives through; God hath not promised sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, Peace without pain. But God hath promised Strength for the day, Rest for the labour, Light for the way, Grace for the trials, Help from above, Unfailing sympathy, Undying Love. Jewell will forever be loved and dearly missed by all who knew her. Her life has touched many people and her family and friends will be forever grateful for her love, wisdom, and devotion. Her memory will forever live in our hearts and her soul will surround us each day of our lives.

Funeral services will be Sunday, August 6, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with the Rev. Dewey Felts officiating. Burial will follow in the Independence Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Saturday night at the funeral home.
