Mary Joyce Horton, 84 of Hillsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at the SECU Hospice Center in Yadkinville, NC. Mrs. Horton was born in Carroll County to the late Leroy Wade and Reva Vass Branscome. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Moyier Elwood Horton.

Survivors include her children, Cynthia Horton Blevins (Virgil Blevins), Susan Horton Thompson (Bobby Thompson), Mark Elwood Horton (Connie Horton), and Jeffrey Damon Horton (Lorrie Horton); siblings, Leroy (Janie) Branscome, Sara Lou Quesinberry, Peggy (Jerry) Hicks, Joe (Gloria) Branscome, Walton (Rebecca) Branscome; grandchildren, Sarah Horton Shinault (Kyle Shinault), Jared Horton, Luke Horton, Logan Thompson, Lane Horton and Afton Thompson; great-grandchild, Palmer Gray Shinault; sisters-in-law and spouses, JoAnn Horton, Bonnie Faye Sumner (Charles), Eva Sue Nester (Bennie), and Dana Lou Marshall (Elden); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mrs. Horton retired in the year 2000 after 25 years of teaching. Throughout her career she touched the lives of many students. Mary was very active in Skyview Baptist Church. She could be found teaching Sunday School, Bible School, WMU, and Gopher Buddies, leading the Young at Heart, and singing in the choir. Her smile and contagious laughter will be missed by all who knew Mary.

The family would like to express a heartfelt "thank you" to special friend and caregiver, Tracy Burns; special caregiver, Marsha Cox and staff of Access Home Healthcare and Rehabilitation; Chaplain Jason Kline and staff of Mountain Valley Hospice; and the staff of Novant Cancer Center in Mount Airy, NC for all of their wonderful love and care for Mary.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Skyview Baptist Church in Fancy Gap, Virginia, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Wendell Horton and Rev. Gary Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb-Skyview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Webb-Skyview Cemetery Fund or to Mountain Valley Hospice. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
