Obituary

Mary Ella DeHaven, 70, of Newport News, VA, passed away on Feb 14, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Crowley, of Newport News, her parents, Marion and Lucille DeHaven of Hillsville, VA, and her brother, Harry Steve DeHaven of Dublin, VA.

She is survived by her partner, Ron Hardee, of Newport News, and nieces Emily (Doug) Rosson of Barboursville, VA and Ellen DeHaven (Ross Kelly) of Hardy, VA. She will be missed by great-nephews Jackson, Harrison and Andrew Rosson.

Mary Ella graduated from Hillsville High School in 1965, and she loved watching Hokie football coached by her classmate, Frank Beamer.  She held Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Radford College and East Tennessee State, respectively.  She was an English and Spanish teacher, teaching most of her career in Hampton City schools.  She had devoted friends from all walks of life and she helped many in their time of need.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Angelo's restaurant in Newport News on March 4 at 2:00 p.m.  A private graveside service will be held at the DeHaven Cemetery in Hillsville at a later date, yet to be determined. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
