Mary Ellen
Brown Price
October 28, 1923 – December 4, 2024
Mary Ellen Brown Price, age 101 of Hillsville, died peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 4, 2024. She had been a resident of Commonwealth Senior Living for many years and was very much loved by their staff. Born on October 28, 1923 in Carroll County, Mary was the daughter of the late Mary Pierce Mitchell Brown and Colonel Taylor (CT) Brown. Aunt Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ballard Preston Price. She and Preston lived and worked for many years in Baltimore, Maryland before retiring to her childhood homeplace at Mitchell's Crossroads in Carroll County.
Mary was a member of Dinwiddie Presbyterian Church in Mitchell's Crossroads. She was an avid student of the Bible and Presbyterian Doctrine. Keeping up with the Brown and Mitchell heritage and family tree brought lots of joy to Mary. Because of Mary's and her niece Mary Lou Brown's work, her family has a wonderful legacy in print.
Survivors include her nieces, Mary Lou Brown of Bluefield, WV and Neva Whitt Miller (Kevin) of Statesville, NC. Surviving nephews are M.G. Covey (Joyce) of Pulaski, VA and Terry Covey (Tammy) of Ferrum, VA. She is also survived by great-nieces Cindy Cook (Jeremiah) of Ooltewah, TN, Amy Howland (Josh) of Stokesdale, NC, Caroline Yon (Keith) of Charlotte, NC and great-nephew Drew Covery (Carrie) of Fisherville, VA. Five great-great-nieces and nephews Pippa, Hudson, Nora, Sully, and Wyatt also survive.
Special thanks are given to the extraordinary and caring staff of Commonwealth Senior Living of Hillsville, VA for their love and compassionate care for our aunt.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville with the Rev. Terry Covery officiating. The burial will follow at Thornspring Cemetery in Pulaski, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Mary's honor to Dinwiddie Presbyterian church. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
