Mary Ruth Brown, age 80 of Hillsville, Virginia passed away in her home Saturday August 3rd, surrounded by loved ones. Mary was born on June 22, 1944 to Paul and Lavaughnia Montgomery. In addition to her parents Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert "Bob" Brown, Sisters Pauline Frazier, Maudine Dunseth, and Brothers Don Montgomery, Robert Montgomery, and Lewis Montgomery.

Mary had a deep love for God and serving others. She served in a local church for several years, as a youth leader, Sunday school teacher, choir director, and conducting several church events. After devoting many years as a supervisor at Bassett Walker, Mary started her career in sewing. She sewed suits for Aircare, Military, and Pediatric Hospitals. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren, reading the bible, and front porch sitting.

She is survived by her daughters Janet Evans (Jeff), and Debbie White. Grandchildren; Aaron Evans (Joy), Ashley Burnette (Caleb), Charity Moize (Sam), Crystal Alley (Cody), and Kim Lane (John). Sister; Sue McMillan (Gilmer). Sister-in law; Patsy Montgomery. She also had 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday August 7th at 12pm with Pastor Jeff Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardner Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11-12 at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
