Mary Annie Horton

Mary Annie Horton, 86, of Carroll County, VA, was born on Sept. 9, 1939 and left this earth for her heavenly home on June 30, 2026. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Swanson and Ossie Horton of Fancy Gap, her brothers Corbit and Freddie Horton, and her daughter Katie Ellen Gardner of Rural Hall, NC.

She is survived by three children Ava (Joe) Porter, Wade Gardner and Lesa Gardner; two grandsons Dougley (Christine) McCallister and Jason (Sherra) Price, one granddaughter Julia Price Moore; seven great-children, Piper (Jake) Clemons, Silar (Rita) Moore, Jasper Moore, and Ryan, Brayden, Logan, and Kellan Price. She is also survived by sister-in-law Marie Horton, nephew Rex Horton, two nieces Linda (Scottie) Davis and Jeannie Wright, grandniece Jayme Wright.

Mary attended the secretarial science program at New River Community College. She lived for many years in Statesville, NC and Kernersville, NC and spent most of her working career with the Southern Fasteners and Supply Company. Mary was known for her love of animals, particularly cats and wild birds. She had a great love for bluegrass music and in her younger years she attended many bluegrass shows and conventions.

The family will receive friends Fri. July 3 from 1-2pm at Sky View Missionary Baptist Church in Fancy Gap, VA. The service will be held following the visitation at 2pm with Rev. Wendell Horton officiating. Mary’s cremains will be buried at the Webb-Skyview Cemetery.

During her final 6 ½ years Mary resided at Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville, VA. She grew close to many of their caring staff there and the family is grateful for the attentive and loving care she received there. The family also extends thanks to Caris Hospice for their compassionate end-of-life care and support.
