Mary Maxine Alexander, age 85, of Hillsville, VA (Sylvatus), passed away from this life to a far better place on Monday, February 6, 2023.
Born on June 2, 1937 in Sylvatus, she was the daughter of the late A. Leek Quesenberry and Sylvia Hester Marshall Quesenberry.
She was a member of the Farris Mines Christian church.
She worked as a presser at Quality Mills and the Mayville factory.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Everett Daniel Alexander; by one brother, Kenneth Quesenberry, and three sisters, twin sister, Ollie Pauline who passed away at seven days old, Lorene Gardner and Martha Jennings.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Phyllis Alexander, who made her home with Maxine, and Carolyn (Gerald) Handy of Hillsville, VA; one son Richard (Yvonne) Alexander of Hillsville, VA; three grandchildren, Regina Handy (Kristen) and Eric Alexander (Christy) all of Hillsville, VA and Travis Handy (Kevin) of Cape Charles, VA: four great-grandchildren, Taylor Spraker (Derek) of Galax, VA, and Damon Hill (Reanna), Brody Alexander, and Kymber Alexander all of Hillsville, VA; one great-great-grandchild, Carter Hill of Hillsville, VA; one brother, Ivan Quesenberry (Nancy) one sister, Helen Moore all of Hillsville, VA; numerous very special nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 1035 N. Main St. Hillsville, VA 24343. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Jeff Pickett officiating. Burial will follow at the James Marshall Cemetery in Sylvatus, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Eric Alexander, Brody Alexander, Travis Handy, Kevin Schwenk, Damon Hill, and Derek Spraker. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Jennings, Steve Reece, Dale and David Quesenberry, and Scott Quesenberry.
The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice, Blue Ridge Home Health, Sara Cox, and Kelly Mims for the excellent care they provided for their mom in the last few months, and for her niece Stacy Edwards, who was always there with helping hands multiple times.
