Martin L. Crowder , of Hillsville, Virginia passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at his home. Mr. Crowder was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Harvey David and Minnie Florence Fleming Crowder. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Effie Mabe, Mallie Dean, Myrtle Austin, Gracie Gravley and Loma Hancock.
Mr. Crowder was the co- owner of H.D. Crowder and the co-owner of F & M Construction. Mr. Crowder served on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Carroll and was the former president of the Blue Ridge Country Club. He was a member of the Elks Lodge as well as the Moose Lodge in Galax. Along with his many accomplishments in life, Mr. Crowder was honored to be a lifetime member of the Dalton Hill Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Largen Crowder and his children, Rejeana Barrett and husband, David of Hillsville, Rhonda Gardner and husband Faron of Hillsville, Marty Crowder and wife, Tammy of Hillsville and son, Robert Crowder of Hillsville. He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Forrest and Frances Crowder of Woodlawn; sisters, Scottie Crowder of Mt. Airy, NC and Velma Beasley of Hillsville; and special friend, Loretta Umbarger.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Dalton Hill Christian Church with Pastor Jason Simpkins officiating. The burial will follow in the Felts Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services. In Lieu of flowers please make donations to, Dalton Hill Christian Church, P.O. Box 790, 209 Coon Ridge Rd. Hillsville, Virginia 24343. The Crowder family would like to thank Twin County Hospice and Twin County Home Health for their care and support. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady is serving the Crowder family.
