Martha June Burnette, 82 of Galax, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Burnette was born in Virginia to the late James William and Opal Mae Southern Parnell. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Roy Burnette, Sr.; son, Charles Cledith (Dickie) Burnette; grandchildren, Christopher Burnette and Scott Poovey; and brother Howard Parnell.

Survivors include her children and spouses, Darlene Poovey of Newton, NC, Yancy Dale and Donna Burnette of Woodlawn, Harry Burnette (Cookie) Burnette, Jr. and wife, Michelle of Galax, and James Darrell and Susan Burnette of Mt. Airy, NC; sister, Evelyn Newman of Hillsville; brothers, Roy Parnell of Bassett, Connie Parnell of Bassett, Kenneth (Bud) Parnell of Collinsville, Paul Parnell of Fries, and Bernie Parnell of Hillsville; seven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 12:00 PM with Pastor Jeff Pickett officiating. Burial will follow in the Parnell Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
