Marlin Wade Surratt

Marlin Wade Surratt, 86, of Hillsville, VA passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025.

Born on November 9, 1938, in Hillsville, he was the son of the late Marvin Rabon Surratt & Myrta Marie Alderman Surratt.

Marlin was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Mary Louise Iroler Surratt, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and cherished memories. His life was guided by his unwavering dedication to family, his deep faith, his strong work ethic, and his quiet strength. For more than 25 years, Marlin owned and operated Ideal Florist of Hillsville, where he combined his creative talent with a commitment to serving his customers and community. Beyond his business, he dedicated himself to civic life, serving as President of the Rotary Club of Hillsville, a Member of the Hillsville Chamber of Commerce, and President for the Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Home Foundation. He also was an active member at Gladesboro Lutheran Church and First United Methodist Church of Hillsville. Through these roles, he worked tirelessly to strengthen and uplift the place he proudly called home.

At home he was a loving father to his daughters and son-in-laws, Cheryl Rodgers and her late husband Robert, and Lori Huff & Greg, and a proud grandfather to Brandon Huff & Lauren, Ashton Taylor & Caleb, and Tessa Schwartz & Jordan. He was also blessed with a great-grandson, Jaden Schwartz, who brought him much joy.

Marlin was preceded in death by his siblings and spouses, Darlo Webb & Ronnie, Alta Weddle & Joe, and Arlin Surratt. He is survived by sister-in-law Jean Surratt,  his brother Glen Surratt & Terri, and several nieces and nephews.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, perseverance, and sacrifice for those he loves. His warm smile, steady presence, and gentle humor will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation and Funeral Service
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, August 15, 2025, at First United Methodist Church of Hillsville, 225 Fulcher Street, Hillsville, VA 24343. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m., where loved ones will join together to honor and celebrate Marlin's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a cause that was especially close to Marlin's heart, working to advance research and support for Alzheimer's disease. Marlin held a deep and abiding commitment to helping find a cure, having witnessed the impact of this illness on both family and friends. His compassion for those affected and his hope for future treatments and cures were unwavering.
