Mark Derwin Vass, 58 of Hillsville, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Vass was born in Carroll County on June 12, 1959. He was preceded in death by his father, James Posie Vass; and brothers, Petey Vass, Jimmy Vass, and Tiny Vass.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Gillespie Vass of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Hannah and Justin DiRico of Radford; mother, Bonnie Vass of Hillsville; sisters, Debra Vass of Galax, Donna Joyce of Hillsville, and Diane Wiggins of Galax; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Elder Melvin McGrady and Bro. Doug Goad officiating. Burial will follow in the Nester Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
