Mrs. Marie Lyon Melton, 100, of Hillsville, VA, passed away at Commonwealth Assisted Living on September 13, 2024. She was born the second of six children on February 27, 1924, to the late Will and Virginia Iroler Lyon of the Gladesboro Community of Carroll County, VA. Marie loved fiercely and only saw the best in everyone. She was a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A talented seamstress, she made clothes for her daughters throughout their childhood and was also a prolific crocheter. Even at 100 she continued to crochet surnames for family and friends as gifts. Her sewing was done in addition to working beside her husband in their cabinet and building supply businesses.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Brenda (Ubert) Frost of Greensboro, NC, and Kathryn (Greg) Fariss of Hillsville; her grandchildren Kevin (Angela) Frost, Emily Frost, Kellie (Alan) Worrell and Jenna (Joe) Carpisassi; her great-grandchildren Sydney Frost, Virginia Worrell, Parker Frost, Michael Worrell, Bode Carpisassi and Luca Carpisassi; several nieces and nephews and many wonderful and life-long friends. In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband Boddie Melton, sisters Maxine Utt and Freeda Beamer, and brothers W.C., Earl, and Donald Lyon.

The celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville with Pastor Bill Heim officiating. Burial will be in the Gladesboro Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 - 2 prior to the service. The family would like to thank the hospice nurses and the staff at Commonwealth Assisted Living for the loving care Marie was given. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Cemetery Fund, Gladesboro Lutheran Church, 3486 Gladesboro Road, Hillsville, VA. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
