Obituary

MARGUERITE KOST TRACY TREXLER KRESHON Marguerite Kreshon of Charlotte, NC, Born in Wheaton, Maryland on July 29, 1928, Marguerite Kreshon was the daughter of late Friedlina Maria Bisig of Einselden, Switzerland, and the late William Jeoffrey Kost of Kussnacht, Switzerland, who immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island, NY, in the early part of the 20thcentury. Raised in a household where Swiss-German was the first language spoken, Marguerite took great pride in her roots. As a mother, she would pass on her Swiss heritage to her children through traditional holiday celebrations, colloquialisms and memorable trips to the Alps. With an indomitable spirit, a strong moral compass and an infectious sense of humor, Marguerite sought to guide her family and strengthen her friends throughout her long, beautiful life. Marguerite graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1946 and matriculated to Garfield Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Three years later, December 26, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart Harold William (Bill) Tracy and worked as a nurse and a fashion model in Baltimore, MD, to support her husband as he completed medical school at The University of Maryland. The young couple relocated to Key West, Florida with the US Navy and their first-born son, John William Tracy arrived in 1956. In 1958, they settled in Charlotte as Marguerite's husband began his medical training in Orthopedic Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center. Three daughters Adrienne Marguerite (1959), Susan Marie (1962) and Anne Marie (1970) joined the family. In addition to running a growing household, Marguerite volunteered her nursing abilities at the Charlotte Red Cross Chapter as a board member, nursing chairperson and instructor. In 1973, she was nominated for the highest award in nursing ever given by the Red Cross, the Anne Magnuson Nursing Award for implementing successful programs that are still used, including the baby sitter, court volunteer and Orthopedic Hospital volunteer programs. In 1976, Marguerite was elected as the President of the Mecklenburg Medical Society Auxiliary followed by her election as the President of the North Carolina State Medical Society Auxiliary in 1982. After the untimely death of her husband in 1975, Marguerite penned the book "Doctors Die Too," at the urging of medical wives and friends. The book was a guide to help families in the professional community set their affairs in order and to maneuver through the crisis. Her book was used as a textbook at several North Carolina colleges including University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Belmont Abbey and Winthrope College. Marguerite married again to Charles B. Trexler who died in 2000. Years later, at 79 years old, she married once more to lifelong family friend, Dr. Martin J. Kreshon, Sr., a prominent Charlotte ophthalmologist. Martin brought constant companionship, much love and laughter to her final years. Marguerite was an active and present elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. Her commitment to Covenant is a testament to the enduring level of care and love the church has shown to the Charlotte community through devotion, outreach and its extraordinary musical programs she so cherished. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Martin J. Kreshon, Sr., his large family, the extended Trexler family and her three children, Dr. John Tracy (Nora), Susan Tracy Roberts (Ben), Anne Marie Tracy Emerson (Patrick), five grandchildren, Bill Tracy, Dylan Roberts, Savannah Roberts, Luke Emerson and Lily Emerson. She was preceded by her first husband Dr. Bill Tracy, her second husband Charles B. Trexler, Sr., her parents, a brother Leon Kost and her daughter Adrienne Marguerite Tracy. A memorial service with Dr. Robert Henderson officiating will be at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Saturday August 11, 2012 at 11 am with a reception to follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials are sent to Covenant Presbyterian Church at 1000 East Morehead St., Charlotte, NC 28204 or Queens University of Charlotte, 1900 Selwyn Ave. Charlotte, NC 28207. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, VA is serving the family.
