Margaret Sue
Shockley Cox
July 23, 1945 – April 16, 2024
Margaret Shockley Cox, 78 of Hillsville, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning, April 16, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Guy and Reva Shockley.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Harold Cox; brother, Harold Shockley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Margaret received a master's degree from Radford University. She taught high school algebra at Fort Chiswell High School for 32 years. While teaching there, she met her husband, Harold. He was an ag teacher at Fort Chiswell. Their dates consisted of walks on the farm with lemonade and cookies. Also, they would chaperone school dances and ball games. After marrying, they continued to work on the farm together. Over the years, she has kept in contact with several of her beloved students, Robby Patton, Lynn Goforth, Tom Jones, and Tom Jackson, to name a few. She enjoyed working on the farm and was an active member of First Baptist Church for 35 years. She is loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
A special thanks to her wonderful caregivers from Access Home Health, Amanda, Emily, Gary, Shawn, and Ginger.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Hillsville with Rev. Zeb Hicks and Dr. Lawrence Childs officiating. Burial will follow in the Monta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.
