Obituary

Margaret Jean Farmer, 84 of Hillsville, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at her home after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer.  Mrs. Farmer was born in Lee County on September 4, 1939.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Kate Kinzer; husband, Clayton Thomas Farmer; step-daughter, Brenda Thompson; and brother, Charles Swain.

Mrs. Farmer was skilled in many trades, but she enjoyed being self-employed and operating her pet and fish business the most.  Her store was located on North Main Street in Hillsville for many years.

She is remembered by her family for her spirit-filled personality and unconditional love.  She leaves behind treasured memories to them all and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children, Nancy Largen, Janet Wynn, Barbara Fisher (Rob), and Sonya Cregger (Adam); step-son, Michael Farmer (Carolyn); step-daughters, Sandra Cave (James) and Joyce Barr (Bill); best bud, Elizabeth Yon; twenty-two grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Mr. Terry Simone officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
