Margaret Edna Bowman Brady, 91, of Atlanta, Georgia and formerly of Carroll County, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015. She was born in Lilybrook, WV on Jan. 28, 1924 to the late Vernon Vincent Bowman and Verna Webb Bowman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Thomas Brady, who passed away on August 1, 1980; two brothers, Robert Bowman and James "Jack" Bowman; and sister, Ethel Martin. Known as Peggy or Peg, she became an RN at Fort Lee, Virginia during WW II. After getting married in Spartanburg, SC, she lived in Atlanta with her husband and together they raised two sons. She was a friend to her son's friends and to her neighbors. Her siblings and their families were special to her and though she didn't live near them, she let them know she loved them. Peg was active in the PTA while her sons were in school and also active in Economic Opportunity Atlanta, helping those in the African American community and children who were less fortunate. She loved people and dogs. At one time, she had sixteen of them and an urban kennel license. Survivors include her sons, Vernon Brady (Debra) of Orlando, FL and Richard Brady (Susan) of Kennesaw, GA; two granddaughters, Emily Ann and Morgan; sister, Bennie Strickland of Hillsville; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: Open Table 172 South Main Street, Hillsville, VA 24343. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Bluemont Presbyterian Church at 4:00 PM with Rev. Rayton Puckett officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Bluemont Cemetery. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
