Mamie Shockley Taylor, 85, of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Taylor was born in Carroll County to the late Heath and Mellie Martin Shockley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Parson (R.P.) Taylor. Mrs. Taylor is survived by her daughter Jane Taylor of Mount Airy, NC and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 1:00 PM with Dr. Lawrence Childs and Pastor Chip Neely officiating. Burial will follow in the Felts Cemetery. The Hillsville Chapter No. 71, Order of the Eastern Star will conduct Eastern Star Services. There will be no visitation. In lieu of food and flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Twin County Humane Society P.O. Box 125, Hillsville, VA 24343 or Mayberry for Paws, 134 West Wilson Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
