Maggie Elizabeth
White
April 26, 1927 – September 21, 2023
Maggie Elizabeth Myers White, 96, of Austinville, passed away on September 21, 2023 at her home surrounded by family. Maggie was born on April 26, 1927 to the late Thomas Edgar "Ed" and Mary Emma Hailey Myers. She was the last surviving child from a family of five sons and five daughters. The importance of family (a family so close, she would swear if you stepped on one person's toes, they would "all holler 'ouch!'), and having a welcome home was paramount in her home as a child, and she upheld these values through the last of her days. She was known to tell stories of how her father welcomed strangers into their home to share a meal or even have a place to rest their head if they had no place to go. Maggie carried this tradition throughout her lifetime, with Christmas trees and Thanksgiving turkeys shared by anyone who wished to join. Her homemade peanut butter balls were a local favorite every Halloween, with many families' third generation knocking on Maggie's door, taking some extra for Mom and Dad. Everyone was fed and loved at "Grandma's house".
Maggie's greatest legacy is the family and love that will carry on for many years to come. She and her late husband Edgar "Ted", are survived by two children and two sons-in-law, Julia Quesenberry (Kent), Vickie Caviness, and Curtis Primm, and three grandchildren, Suzanne Smith (Jeff), Steve Primm (Sharon), and Jennifer Smythers (Avery Beamer). Maggie was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Primm, and one granddaughter, Keri Caviness. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Micheal Wellmon (Lacy Holland), Katlin Wellmon (DJ Moore), Whitney Wellmon (Haley Deaton), Harliey Riggins, and Alex Beamer. Several great-great grandchildren, and step and honorary grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren will also carry her in their hearts.
The family would like to say a special Thank You to Mountain Valley Hospice, especially nurses Stephanie and Missy, for all of their support in Maggie's final weeks.
