Magdalene Gardner, 90 of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Pulaski Community Hospital. Mrs. Gardner was born in Carroll County to the late Robert Eli Horton and Edith Alderman Sowers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Walter Gardner and a daughter Betty L. Lewis. She is survived by a son & daughter-in-law Robert Jr. & Diann Gardner of Radford; daughter & sons-in-law Sandra G. & Larry Cook of Hillsville and W. David Lewis of Knoxville, TN; brother Ray Sowers of Hillsville; five grandchildren: Wesley D. Lewis, Whitney D. Adams, Alyson G. Newsome, R. Matthew Gardner and Jolly Martin; and three great grandchildren: Blayne Newsome, Jacob Newsome, and Gavin Adams.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsville at 3:00 PM with Rev. Ty Harrison and Rev. Ronnie Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardner Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:30 until service time.
