Mrs. Magdalene Thomas Brown, 86, formerly of Hillsville, VA and currently of Mount Airy, NC passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Mountain Valley Living Center. She was born in Surry County on July 3, 1928 to the late Robert and Martha McMillian Thomas. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, John Davis Brown. She is survived by a daughter, Melinda Comer of Mount Airy; a grandson, Cory Comer of Mount Airy; one sister, Jackie Scott of Cana; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Frank and Lois Thomas of Cana, Jim Thomas of Cana; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by four brothers, Sam, Wyse, Roscoe, and Rubin Thomas, and four sisters Myrtle Davenport, Geneva Coe, Sarah Chandler, and Hallie Smith. Funeral services will be held at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, VA on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Dennis Bud Cameron. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 128 Myers Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030; Island Creek United Methodist Church of Hillsville; or Mountain Valley Hospice Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
