Luther Duane Akers, 91 of Fancy Gap, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at his home.  Mr. Akers was born in Max Meadows, Virginia to the late Luther C. and Etta Mae Jones Akers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five children; two grandsons; and several siblings.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Norma Wright Akers; children, Katherine Akers, David Akers (Tammy), Lisa Combs, Vicky Blanton, James Combs (Dawn), Kari Akers, and Leah Akers; sisters, Darlene Odessa Akers Creech and Eva Phipps; forty-six grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 12:00 PM with Chad Crotts and James Combs officiating.  Burial will follow in the Phillips Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM prior to the funeral service.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
