Lula Mae Parnell, 88 of Austinville, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows. Mrs. Parnell was born on August 7, 1927 in Virginia to the late James Sterling and Calistia Allen Southern. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parnell was also preceded in death by her husband, James E. Parnell, Jr.; sister, Mary Jane Ogle; and brother, Moses Southern

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Homer Frazier of Hillsville and Calista Parnell Edwards and Russell Cox of Laurel Fork; sister-in-law, Shirley Southern of Wytheville; grandchildren and spouses, Justin Edwards and Lauren Calhoun of Blacksburg and Eric and Katie Frazier of Richmond; great grandson, Palmer Frazier; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Winston Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in the White Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
