Lula Mae Largen Doss Gambill of Galax went to her heavenly home on December 15, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born in Carroll County to the late Berlie Largen and Ruby Bowman Largen. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Doss of Galax in 1983, and their son, Michael Doss of Schenectody, NY in 2012. She is preceded in death by her second husband, Arthur Gambill of Sparta in 1987. She is also preceded in death by her brother, John Cassell "JC" Largen of Roanoke, and sisters, Betty Largen Hall Clifton of Galax and Faye Largen Williams of Sparta, NC. Survivors include her grandchildren, Nina Doss, Darren Doss and Abby Doss, all of Schenectory, NY, her Daughter in law, Ellen Doss of Schenectody, NY. and step-daughters, Pat Gambill Polley and Jane Gambill Doughton and husband Richard Doughton, all of Sparta, NC. She is also survived by her sister in law, Glorine Largen of Roanoke, and several nieces and nephews. Our love and thanks to her wonderful care taker of six years, Betty Shaffner, who loved her as if she were her own family. Our thanks also to her other caretakers: Carolyn Byrd, Janie Shaffner, Barbara McBride, and Mary Ann Bickerson. Also thanks to all of her caring neighbors and friends. A funeral will be conducted at 11 am, Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Gladesboro Lutheran Church, Hillsville, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
