Lucille Dobbins Newman, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 21, 2026.

Lucille was born in Montgomery County, Virginia on May 6, 1930, to the late Luey and Mattie Dobbins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bolen Randolph Newman; and siblings, Alfred Darrell Dobbins, Mary Alice Dobbins Moore, Melvin Ray Dobbins, and Ralph L. Dobbins.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Judy (Allan) Hill; granddaughter, Tara (Josh) Dowell; great-granddaughter, Emma Dowell; and several nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Lucille attended high school in Radford where she also met her husband. They moved to the Hillsville area where they raised their daughter. Both worked at a family business, Newman Bros. Quarry. She continued her career there into her 80’s. Throughout her life she was a devout Christian and loved sharing the gospel with others. Lucille was devoted to her family, whom she loved so much.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jason Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mountain Valley, as we’re so appreciative of their services. We also want to express appreciation for the skilled unit at Northern Regional Hospital for the wonderful care received. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
