Lucille Perry Bohon, 91, died on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Wheatland Retirement Center in Hillsville. Funeral services will be held at the Hillsville First United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 25, at 2 p.m.; the family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Following the funeral, private burial services will be held at the Perry family cemetery in Fairview. Mrs. Bohon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Perry; her sister, Elizabeth Alderman (Mrs. John); her brother, Bayard Perry (Charlotte), and a nephew, John Perry Alderman. She is survived by two nephews and one niece: Taylor Alderman (Pam) of Roanoke; Bob Perry (Sandy) of Kingsport, TN; and Betty Perry Kilbourne (Jimmy) of Hillsville. She is also survived by two beloved nieces by marriage: Marion Alderman of Hillsville, and Robin Bohon Parks of Ithaca, NY. She attended school in Fairview and Hillsville, graduating from Hillsville High School. When C.E. Ridge founded the dime store on Main Street in the late 1930s, Mrs. Bohon was among the first staff members he recruited. During World War Two, she worked at the Ration Boards local office, serving people who had difficulties coping with the government structure which regulated public access to any item deemed vital to the war effort, such as gasoline, tires, cigarettes, building supplies and candy bars. After the war she was employed by Campbells Department Store, followed by a stint at the Piggly Wiggly. She then worked at The Vogue, a womens dress shop on Main Street, for a number of years. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the church at P.O. Box 356, Hillsville, VA 24343. Funeral arrangements were handled by Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady.
