Obituary

Lola Mae Horton, 72 of Hillsville, peacefully made her journey to God's heavenly home on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

Lola was born in Carroll County on December 5, 1952 to the late Deward Eugene Massey and Delphine Webb Massey.  Lola was a graduate of Patrick County High School in 1971.  She graduated from Wytheville Community College in 2000 and served in law enforcement for 20 years.

Lola's voyage through life was marked by her deep commitment to her family, faith and community.  She shared a beautiful and enduring love with her husband of 53 years, Wayne Horton.  The two were married on Thanksgiving Day in 1971. Together, they shared many adventures, trips, and evenings spent at the drag strip.

Lola's sisters, Kay Burcham (Ernie), Wanda Nester, and Joan Griffin (Eddie), remember her as a pillar of strength and love within the family.  Lola was always a strong supporter of her sisters; at times even proving most strong-willed. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Kathy Roper (Jerry) and Tracy Snelling (John).  Her numerous nieces and nephews will carry forward the love and encouragement she generously offered. Aunt Lola was always only a phone call away for each of them.

Those who knew Lola would describe her as a woman who enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and church family.  Lola was always willing to help others, lend an ear, or even go on spontaneous adventures.  Lola had a love for flowers and animals.  Overall, Lola leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity for those around her.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the exceptional care provided to Lola by the Woltz Hospice Home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady at 11:00 AM with Rev. Sandy Hendrick officiating.  Burial will follow in the Semones Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM prior to the funeral service.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the Horton family.
