Linda Murphy Burnette,76 of Fancy Gap, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Linda was born August 21, 1947 in Washington, DC.  to the late James and Elizabeth Gillespie Murphy.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Jim Burnette; brother, James "Jimmy" Murphy; and brother-in-law, Tony Lasala.

Linda graduated Pocahontas High School class of '66 and later East Tennessee State University Class of '70 with a Bachelor's Degree.

Linda was a Home Economics Teacher for Carroll County Public Schools for 38 years, which she was nominated for the teacher of the year award in 2008 and 2010.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Jimmy Burnette and his wife Beth of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters, Maggie Asbury and husband Dave and Barbara Sue Lasala; Along with several beloved nieces, nephews, and numerous Gillespie and Murphy's cousins, and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.  A guestbook is available online by visiting www.vaughanguynnandmcgrady.com.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
